As I mentioned, people need to exercise like the dickens to get fat oxidation to equal fat intake while eating a high-fat diet. To be successful, many need to increase the body fat mass, because the fat oxidation rate in humans is tied to the size of the fat mass. It is also related to cardiosport the insulin sensitivity, which tends to decline as the fat mass grows. These are some data (Figure 70) showing the relationship between fat content and caloric cardiosport density in cardiosport a menu of different food items. These caloric density values at this end of the figure represent foods that are essentially pure fat. If you convert kilojoules over to calories, it equals roughly 9 per gram. Snack foods have around 5-6 calories per gram. If you take the fat out, you can move them down into the range of 2-3 calories per gram, similar to foods like plain potatoes or cereal, for example. Caloric density is very closely tied to the fat content of foods.
