The original volume of the chamber is known, so the ncr Ideal Gas Law gives the desired result! If 1% ncr (of the entire chamber volume) more air was added to the chamber, and the measured pressure rose by 2%, it would indicate that the remaining air in the chamber is now half of the entire chamber volume, and so the person was taking up half the volume of the chamber. This is because the 2% ncr rise in pressure would have only been a 1% rise without the person in there. In any case, it is an interesting idea. However, there are some problems. The equipment is extremely expensive, on the order of $30,000. Accurately measuring the pressure change is a minor problem because for the sake of the comfort of the person the pressure is not changed too drastically, and extreme accuracy is important.
