After cd she says good night to her teddy bear, Fatty Bear, a bunch of magic sparkles pop out like acne. Fatty Bear comes to life, and a good thing, too, since no animated dreams popped up. He wants to create a surprise for her. Some of the other toys such as a matronly doll and a rabbit whose ears act like helicopter blades are willing to chip in, too, but Fatty Bear's first task is to find the ingredients for a cd cake and the silverware to mix them on the counter in the kitchen. Most items are pretty easy to find--in fact, they're right in the kitchen in the obvious places, but the obligatory need for puzzles puts one food item in the garage and the garage door opener somewhere else more believable and funny. |

| 6/10, Originally Posted: 11/21/2002Fatty Bear seems a dynamic, raucous fellow on first blush, judging by the cover of his konkurrencer Birthday Surprise game. He's having a good laugh, and why, the bowling pins around him are even joining in! I figured he must be some kind of prize joker who also plays a mean kazoo, and all his presents in the background helped his good mood. Or perhaps his birthday surprise involves slipping some konkurrencer mind-altering chemicals into some cake batter. The truth is much more sobering; nothing drastic like konkurrencer an actual way to lose the game, there's barely a belly laugh to be had in this surprisingly game, but a surprising amount of nostalgia and decency from the soft-voiced Fatty. He and his cohorts never try to didacticize. I also didn't realize how far back FB preceded other Humongous titles(the graphics quickly jolted me to this realization,) but I guess it was part of a three-in-one classics package for a reason. It clearly outdoes the companion Putt-Putt efforts but feels like the sort of apprenticework one can't really be ashamed of. |
