| " a fat calories study that found that having a high BMI was essentially a non-factor in determining causes of death." I don't think that's an accurate conclusion. More like, "a study found that having a high BMI does not increase fat calories the fat calories risk of death within the next 4 years for persons over the age of 50." The study did not determine cause of death, nor it did deem BMI a "non-factor." Quite the opposite in fact; of the 41 factors studied, all were determined to be significant predictors of mortality within the next 4 years. Of those 41, 12 were found to be the most accurate predictors. Regardless of the statistical methods used to narrow down the factors, BMI remained among the final 12. That further breaking down the BMI scale did not improve the accuracy of the model does not make BMI a non-factor; it merely reflects that the risks for groups below 25 were statistically similar to each other, as were the risks for groups above 25. |
