But a correlation is not a cause. In order to asset a cause and www fat plumpers effect relationship, three requirements have to be met: 1. A correlation has to exist. 2. The independent variable has to procede the dependent variable in time. IE, the cause procedes the effect. 3. No other viable explanation for the relationship can be made. |

| But I didn't. I did link richmond here from MetaFilter & I richmond did read the FAQ & Guidelines before posting. I posted to this site rather than elsewhere because this is the source of the interview I wanted to comment on. I don't disagree with everything Paul Campos said and focused on his dismissal of medical evidence because I thought I could richmond provide some concrete counter examples. I do not mean to suggest that the "evidence" is "indisputable," only to take issue with Campos' assertion that it "when you actually go look at the medical literature," it [a correlation between weight and health] doesn't exist. The evidence regarding obesity is absolutely disputable. Medicine, or any discipline that claims to operate with scientific rigor, should use existing evidence and be ready to discard it when better evidence becomes available. |
