First, women tend to feel more social pressure to lose weight regardless of health. Second, people who do chose WLS are groups more likely to have ill health than those who don't groups chose WLS (even accounting for the same weight.) Now: speculation: Maybe, a sizable fraction of women chose WLS based on weight only or at least primarily based on weight not ill health. groups
