If I read a newspaper that is constantly wrong, I stop reading it. If I have friends how always lie to me, we stop being friends. Doctors only work when their patients can trust them. That is why they spend so long at medical school learning a zillion 'facts' about the human body. |

| But... the article doesn't mention if they kids who had dieted had recently lost weight. Or if they were already fatter than the ones who weren't dieting. Or anything else that could skew the results. I would expect that both fat party hats and thin kids who had recently lost 10 lbs by dieting would be likely to party hats regain the weight. Adults do! So, in that case, on average, kids who had lost weight (particularly through dieting) just before the first weighing would "gain" faster than those who hadn't recently lost weight. I would also expect kids who were already chubby party hats or fat to gain weight faster than kids who were already rail thin. I mean... my husband is 5'7 and about 120 lbs. I can guarantee you he wasn't gaining any weight in highschool.... and he didn't diet! The non-dieting group includes kids like him. Mostly, I would like to read a more thorough article before I conclude kids diets causes weight gain. |
