November 5, 2004 Yesterday the Times came out with a slightly alarmist article about how fat passengers are cutting into airlines' profits by making them chubby puppy burn more fuel and forcing them to throw more carbon dioxide into the air. America's overall weight increase, of course, is real: average weight increased an average of 10 pounds over the last decade, according to the CDC. (How much am I personally responsible for? That would be telling.) Southwest already makes especially big people buy two seats, and I wonder if other airlines will feel comfortable trying the same thing.
