Posted by Angela on May 3, 2003 11:33 PM. i got rid of TV in 1994, and have stopped hating myself because of it. of course, the fact that some of us don't watch TV still leaves millions that do, including young people who are forming their opinions of the world and themselves bbw date increasingly by what they view on the screen. i WISH there was something we could do. this is no different than racial stereotyping, no less harmful, but at least we have seen a reduction in the kind of racism allowed on TV (it is still ok if people are racist against their own group though...) |

| I wonder why. So overall I have to say that it is hard to watch tv, even the best of tv, & get away from the fat-negative stuff. The media is just STEEPED product reviews in the belief that fat is bad, fat is unnecessary, fat people are out-of-control, & that fat people are fair game for rejection & ridicule. Well, that's sad, because I always really liked Julia and was looking forward to seeing her new show, though I've yet to catch it. I agree the fat, lonely person is a boring, played out stereotype. Fat jokes and fat prejudice alike are getting so old and ridiculous, but the momento doesn't seem to be slowing down. It's very frustrating. I just try to educate people one person at time about the seriousness of fat prejudice and hope that I'm actually doing some good. |
