I think that people have run away with their conclusions here about what this article does or doesn't show. Nowhere does canadian broadcasting corporation it say, or imply, that fat causes peridontal disease. What it does say is canadian broadcasting corporation that there seems to be some kind of interesting link between insulin resistance and peridontal disease. What did they do? They looked at fat people with insulin resistance, canadian broadcasting corporation and they looked at fat people without insulin resistance. And they found that the insulin resistant folk had high levels of peridontal disease. If you want to jump to any conclusions from that article, the only one worth jumping to is a strong link between insulin resistance and peridontal disease. They seem to wonder about whether peridontal disease causes insulin resistance in some way, but I just (as of 3 weeks ago) started getting my insulin resistance under control, and, now that the blog mentions it, my teeth problems (gum disease indeed) have completely gone away!
